Volleyball moves to 21-8, 9-3 in KCAC with 3-0 sweep of Sterling

STERLING, Kan. - The Bethel College Volleyball team took on Sterling College for one more regular season KCAC matchup. The Threshers used this contest as a tune-up for the KCAC Tournament next week as they are already locked into a fourth-place finish and first-round bye. Bethel took the contest in three straight sets winning 25-19, 25-17 and 25-20.

The Threshers started the contest by jumping out to a quick 11-5 lead when Lauren McCreary served six straight times resulting in three Thresher kills, two Warrior errors and a service ace. Following a timeout, Sterling broke the 6-0 Bethel run. The Threshers then used a 9-4 run to build up a 20-10 lead. Sterling tried to make it close at the end, but would never get closer than five points as the Threshers took the opening set 25-19. Kylah Carter led the Thresher attack in the set finishing with six kills.

In the second set, Bethel was once again able to control the contest early as they exploded out to a 12-3 advantage. Sterling actually outscored Bethel from that point on, but the Threshers' lead was too much as they took the set 25-17. Carter once again led the attack, this time with 5 kills.

The third set was a tight contest up until a 7-7 tie. At this point, Bethel scored five unanswered to take an advantage. The Threshers ballooned their lead up to six points, 15-9. Just like the first two sets, Sterling tried to claw their way back at the end, but the Thresher lead proved to be too much once again as they held on for the 25-20 third set win and the 3-0 sweep.

Kylah Carter turned in a 13 kill performance in the win. Kaitlyn Shima recorded a 20 assist 16 dig double-double. Katey Wilhelm led the way defensively for BC with 17 digs, Brooke Russell added in 15 of her own. Julie Wilhite had a team high 3 blocks in the win.

With the win Bethel has finished their regular season with a 21-8 record while going 9-3 in the KCAC.

The Threshers have earned a first-round bye and the fourth seed in the KCAC Tournament. They will have to wait to see what time and who they will be playing next Friday, November 11th in Hutchinson, Kan. in the quarterfinals.
