Game Recap: Softball |

Softball earns first sweep with 6-5, 14-11 victories over Langston

LANGSTON, Okla. - Just two days after returning from Texas, Thresher Softball was right back on the road as they went south to take on the Langston Lions for a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. After a four run seventh inning gave Bethel the late lead in game one, the Threshers turned game two into a homerun derby blasting three balls over the fence on their way to a 14-11 victory.

GAME 1

Marissa Harrison got the scoring started in the top of the first inning when Bethel executed the double steal with Harrison stealing home and Dakota Piovesean stealing second. After Langston answered back in the bottom half of the first with a run, neither team was able to push any runs across until the top of the fifth. After reaching on a fielder's choice, Taylor Sanfillipo was driven in by Catherine Carter who doubled to center giving Bethel a 2-1 lead. Langston once again answered back, this time with 4 runs to take their first lead of the contest 5-2. Two innings later with their backs against the wall the Threshers rallied. After a groundout to start the inning, Harrison and Piovesean got things rolling for Bethel. The Threshers strung together five straight hits to score their four runs in the inning.

Six straight Threshers reached base in the 2nd inning with two outs as Bethel pushed 5 runs across to take the lead back 8-4. The Lions got one run back in the bottom half to cut the lead to 8-5. Bethel scored two runs in each of the next two innings. Dakota Piovesean's first collegiate homerun came in the style of a two run shot to dead center in the 3rd. Catherine Carter also hit her first collegiate homerun with a solo shot in the 4th to lead off the inning before Reeves was driven in by Lauren Hurd later in the inning.
