Threshers drop two to Peru State in McPherson

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - Bethel Softball and Peru State had to move their Sunday doubleheader to McPherson College due to unplayable field conditions at Wedel Field. The Threshers lost game one 10-2 in 5 innings and game two 7-3 to the Bobcats.

Game 1

Bethel struck first pushing a run across in the bottom of the opening frame, but would strand three runners on base. That would be the story for the Threshers in this contest as they had the bases loaded in each of the first three innings and only came away with that lone run. The Bobcats did all of their damage in back-to-back innings in the third and the fourth putting up a six spot followed by four runs. Bethel tried to keep the contest going past the fifth but were only successful in adding one more run as the contest ended 10-2 after five. Bethel stranded 10 runners on base in the loss.

Dakota Piovesan - 1-2, 2 BB
Brianna Reeves - 1-2, R, BB

Game 2

In game two, the Bobcats struck first pushing two across in the second after an error on Piovesan. Bethel answered back for two of their own in the bottom of the third inning on a two RBI single from Reeves. The Threshers took the lead in the fifth inning when Taylor Sanfillippo ripped a double that scored Marissa Harrison. Peru Stated responded in the top half of the sixth with three runs on four hits. They would add to their lead in the seventh as the Threshers made two errors in the inning. Bethel stranded two runners in the seventh as they attempted avoid the sweep, but the Bobcats held on for the 7-3 win.

Marissa Harrison - 2-3, R, BB
Taylor Sanfillippo - 2-4, R, 2 RBI
Cynae Wiley - 7 IP, 10 H, 5 ER

The Threshers will be back on the diamond tomorrow February, 21 for a single game against Central Christian at 2:00 PM at Hesston College with a JV game to follow.
