Game Recap: Softball |

Softball goes 1-2 at McPherson Classic as they beat Mount Marty on a walkoff

McPHERSON, Kan. - The Bethel College Softball team took part in the McPherson Bulldog Classic, a tournament that was shortened due to weather. Instead of playing Saturday and Sunday, the Threshers elected to play three games on Sunday. Bethel dropped it's first contest 12-9 to Mayville St. before falling 11-2 to #25 Morningside before eventually picking up the 6-5 walkoff win over Mount Marty in the night cap.

GAME 1 L vs Mayville State 12-9

The Threshers started the day off hot scoring three runs on a homerun off the bat of Peyton Uznanski, her second career big fly. But the Comets were able to answer back and some in the bottom half of the first as they hung eight runs on the Thresher defense. Bethel got right back in the contest in the fourth inning scoring four runs on two hits aided by four Comet errors. The four run inning was sparked by a Lynzi Myrick two-run homerun, her first career long ball. Once again, Mayville State answered Bethel as they responded with two runs pushing their lead back up to 3, 10-7. The Comets put up a run in each of the next two innings extending their advantage to 12-7. BC pushed across two runs in the top half of the seventh inning, but were unable to complete the come back as they dropped game one 12-9.

Seven Threshers finished the contest collecting a hit.

GAME 2 L vs #25 Morningside 11-2

The Mustangs started the contest with a 5 run first inning as they recorded just two hits and were aided by three Thresher errors. Bethel got a run back in the bottom half on a Uznanski RBI double that scored Brianna Reeves. Neither team scored again until the fourth inning when Morningside had yet another big inning as they scored six runs on five hits with BC committing one error. With the Mustangs leading 11-1, Bethel came up to bat in the bottom half of the fifth inning trying to avoid the run rule. The Threshers were able to push a run across, but were unable to get the lead under eight as the Mustangs took the 11-2 victory.

Five Threshers finished the contest with a hit.

GAME 3 W vs Mount Marty 6-5

In game three the Threshers once again found themselves in a hole after the opposing team was at the plate for the first time. Luckily for Bethel, they were able to respond in the bottom half with two runs with RBI singles from Reeves and Dakota Piovesan. The Lancers took the lead in the second inning with a two RBI double and added two more in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead going into the bottom half of the frame. Bethel scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a Uznanski two RBI infield single. Trailing by one with two innings left to play, BC cut the lead in half in the sixth when Lauren Hurd scored on a batted ball from Marissa Harrison that resulted in a Lancer error. Bailea Crist started off the bottom of the seventh inning with a double down the left field line. After a flyout and a strikeout, Crist stole third. While attempting to throw out Crist, the Lancers catcher threw the ball into left field allowing Crist to come home giving the Threshers the 6-5 walkoff victory.

Dakota Piovesan - 3 for 4, RBI
Lauren Hurd - 2 for 3, 3 R, BB, 2B
Brianna Reeves - 2 for 3, R, RBI, SAC
Peyton Uznanski - 2 for 4, 2 RBI

The Threshers will be back on the diamond on Tuesday, March 15th as they host the Saint Mary Spires for their KCAC home opener doubleheader at 4 and 6 pm.
