Softball earns split in Winfield with 12-6 game two victory

WINFIELD, Kan. - The Bethel College Softball team continued KCAC play Sunday afternoon against the Southwestern College Moundbuilders in a game that had to be pushed back due to weather earlier in the week. After losing game one on a walk-off, the Threshers responded with a big first two innings on their way to earning a split with a 12-6 game two victory.

GAME 1 L, 5-4
Bethel opened up the scoring in game one as they pushed two runs across in the fourth inning when Taylor Sanfillippo came up with a bases loaded single to score Payton Uznanski. Later in the inning, Catherine Carter scored on a wild pitch to give BC a 2-0 lead. The Moundbuilders responded with a four run fifth inning to take a two run lead after five complete. The Threshers tied the contest in the sixth inning on a Brianna Reeves RBI single and another Southwestern wild pitch. With two on and one out in the bottom of the seventh, the Moundbuilders scored on an error by the Thresher second baseman to take game one 5-4.

GAME 2 W, 12-6
The Threshers once again opened up the scoring for the contest, this time in the opening frame as they pushed across three runs. Sanfillippo, Uznanski and Marissa Harrison all recorded RBI singles in the first inning. Southwestern answered with three runs of their own in the bottom half to tie the contest. Bethel opened up a five run lead after the second inning as they brought all 9 batters to the plate in the inning. Olivia Nava stole home on a double steal with Crist to get the scoring started in the inning. Sanfillippo and Harrison recorded RBI singles once again, while Reeves turned in an RBI double in the inning. The Threshers added another run in the third when Sanfillippo recorded her third RBI of the contest with a double that scored Crist. Neither team scored again until the bottom of the sixth when the Moundbuilders were able to cut the Thresher lead in half with 3 runs. Bethel answered back immediately scoring 3 runs in the seventh with a Nava RBI single and a Dakota Piovesan two-RBI double to cap the scoring and giving the Threshers a 12-6 lead. Jesse McMichael was able to sit Southwestern down in order to close out the victory and give the Threshers the split.
