Women's Tennis defeats John Brown 6-1 before dropping 4-3 matchup with Texarkana

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College Women's Tennis team hosted both the John Brown Golden Eagles and the Texas A&M Texarkana Eagles this past weekend. The Threshers took down the Golden Eagles 6-1 before dropping their contest with the Eagles 4-3. 

The Threshers pulled in two of the three matches in doubles with their two wins finishing very tight (2-6, 7-5, 7-5). Playing in the #1 singles spot Daniela Herrera won a 6-1, 6-2 matchup with JBU's Kuykendall. Halle Krehbiel won the tie breaker in her second set after handedly winning her first, 6-3, 7-6(3). Fatima Nemi was able to keep the trend going for the Threshers as she picked up the 6-2, 7-5 victory over her opponent. Nalea Payton also picked up her point for Bethel with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over the Golden Eagles' Prude. Jenna Mahoney won the final point for the Threshers with a dominant performance picking up a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Julia Sherman gave up the only point for JBU as she fell 7-5, 6-2 in #6 singles.

In their second contest of the weekend BC dropped a tight matchup with the TAMTU Eagles 4-3. The Threshers came away with the doubles point after a 7-5 victory in the #2 slot and a win by default at #3. The Threshers top pair of Herrera and Krehbiel once again struggled as they fell 6-3. Herrera picked up the win at #1 singles 7-5, 4-6, 10-6. Bethel dropped the rest of their matchups in two straight sets. Krehbiel dropped her matchup at #2 singles 6-3, 6-1. Nemi also fell in two straight sets 6-2, 7-5. Payton fell to Ibarra 6-1 in the first set and like Nemi tried to make a push in the second, but fell short 7-5. Mahoney dropped her two sets 6-2, 6-4. Sherman won by default with the Eagles only having five players.

The Threshers will be back in action this weekend as they make a road trip through Missouri to take on Missouri Baptist(3/11), Lindenwood(3/12) and William Woods(3/13).
