SALINA, Kan. - The Bethel Threshers Softball team hit the road for a twinbill with the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes. Bethel dropped the opening contest 5-4 in 9 innings before being run ruled 8-0 in 5 innings for game two.
GAME 1, L 5-4 (9 innings)
The Coyotes jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage with a run in the bottom of the opening frame. In the bottom half of the fourth inning, Kansas Welseyan doubled their lead with a solo shot to left center. Trailing 2-0, Bethel mounted a comeback as they chipped away at the Coyote lead first in the top of the fifth on an RBI single from
Karlie Stephens that scored
Abigail Walker. The Threshers tied the contest in the next inning when a
Marissa Harrison double scored
Dakota Piovesan. Neither team was able to take the advantage in the seventh inning as the contest moved to extra innings. In the eighth inning, with
Olivia Nava getting put on second base,
Bailea Crist reached on a bunt and advanced to second on a KWU error. With runners in scoring position,
Lauren Hurd smacked a triple down the left field line scoring the two runners and giving the Threshers the 4-2 advantage. The Coyotes were able to respond with two runs of their own in the bottom half to force another extra inning. This time, the Threshers weren't able to score their runner from second base. Kansas Wesleyan however, was able to manufacture their run by bunting the runner over before hitting a sacrifice fly that was caught in foul territory.

GAME 2, L 8-0 (5 innings)
In game two, the Coyotes jumped on the Threshers early putting up four runs in the opening inning including back-to- back homeruns, a two-run and a solo. Kansas Wesleyan added three more runs in the fourth inning with a two RBI double and an RBI single. They added the final blow in the bottom of the fifth when the Threshers made an error with the bases loaded that allowed KWU to score their 8th run and activate the run rule. The Threshers stranded six runners in the loss while the Coyotes stranded just one.Â

The Threshers will be back in action on Wednesday, April 20th as they head to Hillsboro to take on the Tabor Bluejays for a KCAC doubleheader with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 PM.
