ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Bethel College Volleyball team took part in the Eutectic Classic hosted by the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy of St. Louis. The Threshers won all four of their contests dropping just two sets, both on the opening day.
W 3-1 vs Cottey College (25-27, 25-15, 25-15, 25-20)
The Threshers held a lead for much of the opening set, including leading 24-22, but errors stymied Bethel in the set as they committed 12 including two in the final five points. The Threshers found their groove in the second set and were able to cruise to a 25-15 set victory after cleaning up their errors, committing just three. Tied 9-9 in the set, Bethel rattled off 11 unanswered points to take control of the match. The third set was similar for the Threshers, except their lead came from multiple smaller spurts of scoring to put the Comets backs against the wall heading into the fourth set. Bethel was able to jump out to an early 5-1 lead and never looked back as they led the whole set. Three Threshers recorded double-digit kills led by
Mia Loganbill with18 kills.
Jordan Boone turned in 14 and
Kylah Carter 13.Â
Mia Roman turned in 36 assists in the victory.
Katey Wilhelm led the defense with 14 digs.
W 3-1 vs Health Sciences and Pharmacy (16-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-23)
Bethel once again struggled coming out of the gate as they dropped the opening set, again due to double digit errors. Much like their first contest, Bethel was able to clean up their play in the second set committing just 5 errors in the set victory. The third set was a very back and forth match with neither team being able to pull away from the other. The largest lead for either side came when BC led 23-19. The Eutectics tried to make a run at the set late, but the Threshers held on for the two point victory. In the fourth set, Bethel jumped out to an early six point lead 15-9. At this point, UHSP made a run at the lead as they put together a five point rally to get back into the contest. Bethel was able to keep UHSP at an arms length the rest of the match as they held a one to two point lead down the stretch on their way to taking the match 3-1. Loganbill had 18 kills for the second straight match. Roman led the team in assists again with 26 while Wilhelm turned in 22 digs in the victory.
W 3-0 vs College of the Ozarks (25-23, 25-21,25-22)
The Threshers were able to get started better on day two as they opened up scoring the first three points. The Bobcats were able to get right back into the contest eventually taking a 12-9 lead. At this point, the Threshers rattled off 8 straight points to take a 17-12 lead. However, Ozarks wouldn't go away easily as they put together a 6-0 run of their own to bring the score to 23-22 in favor of BC. Bethel scored two out of the final three points to take the set 25-23. The second set was similar to the first with the beginning being a back and forth match and Bethel taking a late lead and holding on. The Threshers recorded 20 kills in the second set, half coming from the arm of Loganbill, as they took a 2-0 lead. The third set saw Bethel take command early and cruise to a 20-13 lead. This is when the Bobcats made their run scoring five unanswered making it a three point contest, 20-18 in favor of BC. The Threshers were able to hold on for the 25-22 set victory and a 3-0 match win. The Threshers had three players with double-digit kills Loganbill(16),
Kylah Carter(11) and
Jordan Boone(10). There were also three Threshers that recorded double-digit digs in the contest, Wilhelm(21),
Maddie Chupp(13) and
Brooke Russell(11). Roman once again led Bethel in assists with 27.
W 3-0 vs Iowa Wesleyan (25-19, 26-24, 25-18)
The story of this match would be errors on Iowa Wesleyan as they had 25 in the Thresher victory. In the first set of the match, BC jumped out to an early lead and never looked back controlling the set from start to finish. The second set was more of a back and forth match with both teams answering blows from one another and neither being able to pull away. With the score tied 21-21, Bethel scored the next two points to put the pressure on the Tigers. They answered with two points of their own to tie the contest back up. Both teams traded points to tie the contest at 24 before Bethel scored two straight with kills by
Mia Loganbill and
Landree Merriman. The third set saw BC gain the early lead and run away with it never leading by less than three points as they cruised to the 25-18 set victory and 3-0 match win. Loganbill had 15 kills to lead the Threshers. Bethel had multiple players with double-digit assists and digs.

Maddie Chupp (10) led BC in digs.
The Threshers will be back in action on Thursday, September 22 as they host Friends University inside Thresher Gym at 7:00 PMÂ to open KCAC play.
