NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College Volleyball team opened up KCAC Conference play Thursday night when they hosted the Friends Falcons inside Thresher Gym. After dropping the opening set, Bethel cleaned house in the next three winning 25-19, 25-8 and 25-23.
Â
The Threshers swung just .137 in the opening set as Friends took the frame 25-19. Bethel held the lead for much of the early parts of the contest, however, the Falcons took the lead late in the set. The Threshers could not limit errors late committing two in the final three points.Â
Â
The second set saw Bethel take the early lead once again. Much like the first set, the Falcons came storming back. This time the Threshers were able to weather the storm ending the match on an 8-2 run littered with Falcon errors for a 25-19 set win, tying the contest 1-1.
Â
Bethel dominated the third set taking the match 25-8. The Threshers used a 17-4 run to take control of the game. BC turned in 14 kills in the set recording a hitting percentage of .333. They were also able to force 11 Falcon errors in the set.
Jordan Boone recorded four kills in the set, while
Darian Lowden added three.Â
Â
Set four was very similar to the opening two as the Threshers built up a five-point lead early on in the match and the Falcons came roaring back. Both teams traded points down the stretch with each calling timeouts to slow each others runs down. Following a Bethel timeout, the Threshers scored five straight points, thanks to four Falcon errors, to close out the contest 25-23.Â
Â
This was Bethel's first win over Friends in the last ten contests ending a five-year drought. The Threshers allowed the Falcons to swing just .007 while hitting .201 themselves.Â
Â
The Threshers were led in kills by
Jordan Boone with 11.
Mia Roman recorded 20 assists while
Katey Wilhelm turned in 20 digs.Â
Â
Bethel will be back in action tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 23 as they host a triangular with Evangel and Haskell Indian Nations. Bethel and Evangel will play at 3 pm, Evangel and Haskell at 5 pm and Bethel and Haskell at 7 pm.Â
