Men's Soccer loses tightly contested 3-2 matchup with Friends

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College Men's Soccer team hosted the Friends Falcons for a KCAC Conference matchup inside Thresher Stadium. The Falcons took a 2-1 lead into the halftime break but the Threshers were able to tie the contest in the second half before fouling in the box giving Friends a penalty kick which they converted on.

Bethel's Cristobal Goldberg opened up the scoring for the contest in just the fourth minute. Assisted by Gabriel Villegas, Goldberg was able to beat the keeper to the near side.

The Falcons answered back just under a minute later with a ball crossed into the box by Guilherme Oliveira found Sora Shibata who beat Gustavo Infante.

In the 10th minute Friends was able to extend their lead to 2-1 when Jose Lapentty, assisted by Carlos Vidrio, found the back of the net.

Bethel got their equalizer just 15 minutes into the final 45 when defender Adalsteinn Kristinsson scored on a ball that rattled around in the Falcon box.

In the 61st minute the Threshers committed a foul in their own box giving the Falcons a penalty kick which they converted into a 3-2 lead.

Bethel had multiple opportunities in the closing 30 minutes but couldn't capitalize on their opportunities.

There were 10 cards handed out in the contest, all coming in the final 30 minutes.

The Threshers will be back in action on Tuesday, September 27th as they host the Randall Saints for a non-conference matchup at 6:30 PM.
