NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College Men's Soccer team hosted a non-conference contest on Tuesday evening inside Thresher Stadium as they took on the Randall Saints. The Threshers rode an early 2-0 lead on their way to a 3-1 victory over the Saints.
Freshman
Gabriel Villegas opened up the scoring for the contest in the fourth minute when he received a pass from
Vicente Trejo, got past a defender and beat the keeper one-on-one for this fifth goal of the season.
The Threshers next goal came in the 23rd minute when a Saint defender attempted to make a pass back to the keeper who came charging out to pick the ball up. The defender blew the ball by the keeper and into the net giving Bethel the 2-0 advantage.
Randall cut the lead in half in the waning seconds of the opening half after a mistake by the official gave the Saints a free kick in the box due to the Bethel Keeper mishandling the ball.
In the second half,
Cristobal Goldberg was able to extend the Bethel lead back to two when a ball that rattled around the box found his foot. He was able to knock one past the defenders beating the keeper as well for his second goal on the season.
Bethel out-shot Randall 21(6) to 8(2) in the victory.Â
The Threshers will be back in action on Saturday, October 1 as they host McPherson with kickoff set for 7:30 PM.
