Box Score 2 WINFIELD, Kan. - The Bethel College Men's Tennis team took part in the KCAC Fall Individual Championships hosted by Southwestern College. The Threshers brought home two medals as
Tomas Quercia finished 3rd in #3 singles and Quercia and
Milan Bucek finished 3rd in #1 doubles.
Milan Bucek played in the #1 singles spot for the Threshers where he picked up an 8-6 victory in his quarterfinal matchup after receiving a first round bye. In his second match, Bucek fell 8-3 to the top seeded Michael Beltran of McPherson. This put Milan in the 3rd place match where he faced off with Kansas Wesleyan's Bryce Ware. Ware would end up taking the match 8-3 over the Threshers top man.
At #2 singles was freshman
Rodrigo Sanchez. Sanchez picked up a first round victory over Saint Mary's Crumpacker 8-0. In his quarterfinal matchup, Rodrigo took down Tabor's Alexander 8-6 to advance to the semifinals. Sanchez dropped his semifinal match to Kansas Wesleyan's Sherer 8-6 to move to the third place match. Rodrigo fell in the third place match 9-7 to Oklahoma Wesleyan's Ortiz.
Tomas Quercia picked up the lone singles medal for the Threshers in the #3 singles spot. Quercia opened up by facing Friends' Watson in a match where he would win 8-2. Tomas then moved on to defeat KWU's Collin Phelps 8-6 to advance to the semifinals. In his semifinal match against Southwestern's Poi, Quercia fell 8-4 to fall into the the third place match. Facing off with Ottawa's Aguilera, Quercia came out on top 8-6.
Damian Rosas played in the #4 singles spot where he dropped his opening match to KWU's Wright in a tiebreaker 9-8(9-7). He would also fall in his consolation match to OKWU's Navarro 8-0.
At #5 singles,
James Menard fell in his first match 8-5 to Evangel's Stamatov. Menard would come back in the consolations to win that side of the bracket. He started the consolations by beating Friends' Chouinard 8-3 and then went on to defeat Bethany's Danzer 8-2.
In the final singles spot,
Jordan Twenter lost his opening matchup with KWU's Jacob Phelps 9-7.
Bucek and Quercia, playing together at #1 doubles, brought home the third place medal. The pair opened up with a victory over Saint Mary's Contrucci and Crumpacker 8-2. They then dropped their quarterfinal match to Tabor's Garcia and Alexander 8-5. The Thresher top pair won their third place match 8-4 over OKWU's Ortiz and Dardanie.
In the #2 doubles spot was the pair of Sanchez and Rosas. The duo lost their opening match 9-7 to Ottawa's Giorgio and Ramirez. They also dropped their consolation match 9-8(9-7) to KWU's Craft and Wright.
The #3 duo of
Jaden Fox and Menard fell in their opening match 8-0 to KWU's Phelps and Hansen. They then went on to win their consolation matchup against Bethany's Danzer and Rosenow 8-0.
The Threshers will be back in action on Friday, Saturday and Sunday September 30th, October 1st and second as they compete in the ITA Regional in Salina, Kan.
