NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College women's basketball team used a 32-point fourth quarter to take down the Friends Falcons at home on Wednesday evening.
The contest started sluggishly as neither team was able to get many shots to fall in the opening frame. Bethel held onto a five point advantage, 14-9, after the opening quarter. Freshman
Caryn Yoder had half of the Threshers points in the quarter.
The second quarter saw both teams play even basketball scoring 14 points a piece and shooting nearly identical percentages from the floor.
After the break Friends, who trailed 28-23, outscored Bethel 23-13 in the third quarter as they shot 50% from the floor while holding the Threshers to under 30%.
Troi Lucas kept Bethel in the contest as she scored 8 of her game high 23 points in the third.
Trailing 46-41 entering the final quarter of play, the Threshers kicked it up a notch as they shot over 64% from the field as they put up 32 points outscoring the Falcons by 12. Yoder caught fire after sitting much of the second and third quarters in foul trouble. The freshman guard shot 5 of 6 from the floor including 3 of 3 from downtown in the final quarter as she scored 15 of her 22 points in the frame.
Key Statistic
Despite playing just 16 minutes, Yoder turned in a career high 22 points on 8 of 9 shooting including 4 of 4 from three point range.
By The Numbers
Despite Lucas' and Yoder's big scoring performances, Bethel had contributions from nearly everyone that played as ten Threshers scored in the victory.
Bethel lost the battle of the boards pulling in 37 to the Falcons' 43.
The Threshers shot 64% from the floor and 62% from three point range in the final ten minutes of play as they turned in their biggest scoring quarter of the season.
Bethel won the points in the paint battle, the turnover battle, had more points off of turnovers and better bench contribution than Friends did.
Six Threshers finished the contest with four or more rebounds.
