LEAVENWORTH, Kan. - Scoring one goal in each half, the Bethel College men's soccer team takes down the Saint Mary Spires on the road 2-1.
Mussawir Ahmed, assisted by
Kevin Applewhite, broke the scoreless tie in the 11th minute.Â
Scoring the only goal in the half, the Threshers took the 1-0 lead into the intermission.
Both teams took five shots in the opening 45 minutes.
Despite being outshot 9-4 in the final 45 minutes, Bethel scored first in the second half before allowing a late Spire goal.
Following a Saint Mary foul in the box,
Filip Maksimovic gave the Threshers the 2-0 advantage in the 54th minute after converting on a penalty kick.
The Spires got on the scoreboard in the 79th minute, but were unable to find the equalizer as the Threshers held on for the victory.
Sean Holness, Bethel's keeper, recorded 5 saves in the victory.
The Threshers will be back in action on Wednesday, October 25th as they host the Sterling College Warriors with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 PM.
