NORTH NEWTON, Kan. -
Filip Maksimovic recorded his third hat-trick of the season in the first half as the Bethel College men's soccer team used four first-half goals to defeat Sterling.
Â
Maksimovic got the scoring started in the 5th minute when he received a long pass from
Adalsteinn Kristinsson, took a touch with his head and outran the Warrior defense to beat the keeper.
Â
Filip recorded his second goal of the contest in the 20th minute after receiving a pass from
Cristobal Goldberg. Goldberg passed the ball from the end line back to the middle of the box where Maksimovic beat the keeper to the far post.Â
Â
After a Warrior foul in the box, Goldberg gave the Threshers the three-goal advantage in the 22nd minute.
Â
Maksimovic completed the first-half hat-trick in the 39th minute when he fired a missile to the far post from 28 yards out with his right foot.
Â
Both teams had ample opportunities in the final 45 minutes but were unsuccessful in finding the back of the net.
Â
With just over three minutes left in the contest, the Warriors faced their best chance of the contest following a Thresher foul in the box.Â
Â
Bethel's keeper,
Sean Holness, preserved the clean sheet as he saved the penalty kick, one of his season-high 9 saves.
Â
With the win, the Threshers secure their spot in the KCAC Postseason Tournament.
Â
Bethel will wrap up their regular season schedule as they look to gain a chance at hosting a playoff contest on Saturday, October 29th at 8:00 PM against Avila.
