NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College men's basketball team avenged its previous 34-point loss to William Woods by defeating them 85-80 in Thresher Gym to cap off the first Bethel Classic.

Bethel controlled the contest from the jump as they never trailed in the first 20 minutes, leading by as much as 20 points during multiple instances.

However, the Owls didn't go away quietly as they slowly clawed their way back into the contest to trail by just eight at the half, 42-34.

To start the second half, Bethel pushed their lead back up to as much as 14 points before William Woods came screeching back.

The Owls took their first lead of the contest at the 13:11 mark, 55-54.
Nick Bonner gave the Threshers the 70-69 lead with just under 5 minutes left in regulation.

With William Woods leading by four with under two minutes left to play, the Threshers closed out the game with their best sequence of the contest.

Jared Richardson steals the ball at half court from an Owl player and attacks the rim, making the bucket and drawing the foul tying the contest. His made free throw attempt put BC up by a point.

On the ensuing WWU possession, the Threshers forced a miss but gave up an offense rebound. The rebounder attempted to put the ball back up but
Jalyn Todd blocked the attempt as
Nick Bonner rebounded the ball and was fouled.

Bonner and
Carmelo Yakubu iced the game by both making a pair of free throws down the stretch giving Bethel the 85-80 victory.
