Threshers snap skid with 64-44 victory over Moundbuilders

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College Women's Basketball team opened up a large lead early in the contest and never looked back as they cruised to the twenty point, 64-44 victory. 

Bethel used a balance scoring attack to open up a nine point lead after one quarter of play. The Thresher defense played big in the opening ten as they held the Moundbuilders to just seven points on 3 of 12 shooting while not allowing an offensive rebound.

The Threshers used the hot hand of Jaycee Freshour to extend their lead even more going into halftime. Freshour was 2 of 3 from deep and 3 of 4 from the floor as she accounted for nearly half of BC's second points. 

After taking a 34-19 lead into the intermission, Bethel kept their foot on the gas pushing their lead even larger in the third quarter. The Threshers allowed the Moundbuilders to shoot just 25% from the floor in the quarter while knocking down over 31% of their own shots. 

Bethel led by 16 points entering the final quarter, their fourth straight quarter outscoring their opponent. Josie Stupey scored nine of her team high 14 points in the final 10 minutes as she aided Bethel in pushing their lead to 20 points.

Ten Threshers scored in the victory led by Josie Stupey and Jaycee Freshour who finished with 14 points a piece.

Troi Lucas joined the duo of 14 point scorers in double figures as she put up 13 herself. 

The battle on the backboards saw an advantage in favor of the Threshers of 50-36.

Bethel outscored Southwestern 28-22 in the paint.

Bethel pulled in 16 offensive boards that led to 13 second chance points.

Freshour recorded her 3rd double-double of the season as she pulled in 11 boards to go along with her 14 points.

The Threshers will be back in action on Saturday, February 18th as host the McPherson College Bulldogs for Senior Night with tip-off scheduled for 5:00 PM. The senior night festivities will take place between the women's and men's contests.
