YANKTON, S.D. - The Bethel College women's soccer team finished up their non-conference play on Sunday against the Mount Marty Lancers. The Threshers used three first half goals to take the contest 5-0.
Claire Hedlund, the Threshers top returning goal scorer from a year ago, got the scoring started in just the fifth minute with her first goal of the season.
Just seven minutes later,
Ashley SaJous doubled Bethel's lead with her fifth goal of the season, assisted by Hedlund.
Later in the first half,
Katie Rose Friesen Birky found the back of the net for her first goal of the 2023 season, assisted by
Sydney Brown.
After taking a 3-0 lead into the break, the Threshers came out looking to put the Lancers away. SaJous scored her sixth goal of the season in the 61st minute to put BC up 4-0.
Brown got in on the goal scoring action herself in the 84th minute to cap off the scoring for the contest as the Threshers earned their second straight clean sheet.Â
Bethel faced just two shots on goal in the contest as their keeper
Victoria Esquivel saved them both.Â
The Threshers outshot the Lancers 17(16) to 3(2).Â
Bethel will be back in action as they open up KCAC play on Saturday September 16th at Oklahoma Wesleyan with kickoff scheduled for 5:00 PM.
