Volleyball finishes 2-2 at Labor Day Classic in South Dakota

SIOUX CITY, N.D. - The Bethel College Volleyball team participated in the Labor Day Classic hosted by the College of Saint Mary. After dropping their first two contests of the tournament, Bethel finished the weekend strong picking up a straight set victory and a five set victory on day two.

The Threshers opened the tournament with a 3-0 loss to Dakota State. Set one was a tightly contested 29-27 match. The Trojans gradually took control winning set two 25-20 before taking set three 25-15. Kylah Carter (12) and Cam Offerle (10) both recorded double-digit kills in the loss. Kaitlyn Shima recorded 20 assists, while Offerle led the defense with 12 digs.

In Bethel's second game of day one, they came up short again as Morningside took the contest 3-1. The Mustangs took set one 25-21 but the Threshers answered in set two winning by the same score. Morningside then went on to win set three 25-17 and set four 25-21. Jordan Boone led the attack with 11 kills in the match. Shima added in another 20 assists, while Darla Crow recorded a game-high 9 blocks.

Bethel got back in the win column in game three with a straight-set sweep of Briar Cliff. The Threshers took a tight opening set over the Chargers 25-22. Bethel was able to close out sets two and three quicker as they won 25-20 and 25-18. Crow led the attack this time with 11 kills to go along with 7 blocks. Mia Roman recorded 15 assists and 11 digs in the victory.

The Threshers opened up their final game of the weekend by dropping a tight first set to Governors State. After the Jaguars took set one 25-22, Bethel took the next two sets both 25-21. With their backs up against the wall, GSU won another tight set in the fourth 25-23. The fifth set saw the Threshers rattle off four straight points halfway through it to take a two point lead. Bethel never trailed after that point as they pulled away for the 15-10 fifth set victory. Offerle finished with a team high 20 kills. Roman and Shima both finished with 25+ assists in the victory. Crow brought her block total for the weekend to 28 with another 7 block performance. Maddie Chupp led the Thresher defense with 22 digs in the five set victory.
