Volleyball Continues Winning Streak, Sweeps York behind Huge Game from Ownbey

North Newton, Kan. - Bethel College volleyball continued their winning ways, defeating York University in straight sets, 25-14, 25-16, 27-25. The win marks Bethel's 18th consecutive set victory as they remain undefeated in KCAC play.

Laci Ownbey led the offensive charge for the Threshers with 17 kills including 9 in the second set alone, hitting .345 and contributing 19.5 points. Cameron Offerle was also a key contributor with 12 kills and 13.5 points, while Darla Crow dominated at the net with 6 kills and 9.5 points, including 5 blocks. Setter Mia Roman was, again, an important part of Bethel's attack, dishing out 36 assists and adding 4 aces, while Abby Koontz held down the defense with 13 digs.

Set 1: Bethel 25, York 14
The Threshers started slow, falling behind 3-0, but quickly rallied behind kills from Cameron Offerle and Darla Crow. After tying the set at 5-5, Bethel took control with a strong service run by Maddie Chupp, pushing the lead to 9-6. Bethel's blocking, led by Crow and Laci Ownbey, stifled York's attack, and the Threshers closed out the set on a 16-8 run.

Set 2: Bethel 25, York 16
Bethel found themselves in a 7-2 hole early in the second set, but again turned to Ownbey, whose five consecutive kills helped erase the deficit. With the score tied at 7-7, Bethel surged ahead, with Jordan Boone and Ownbey leading a 12-5 run. York struggled to break through Bethel's defense, and the Threshers maintained control to win the set comfortably, 25-16.

Set 3: Bethel 27, York 25
The third set was the most competitive, with both teams exchanging leads and extending the set past 25 points. Bethel led 18-11, but York mounted a comeback to tie the set at 24-24. After a York service ace gave them a 25-24 lead, Bethel called a timeout and regrouped. Bethel fought off the set point and sealed the win with a kill by Offerle to complete the sweep.

Bethel will look to keep their momentum going as they prepare for their next match against Southwestern on Saturday at home for Fall Fest!
