The Bethel College women's soccer team faced a tough challenge at home against Saint Mary, ultimately coming up short in a 2-1 defeat. Bethel's Madison Davis put the Threshers on the board early, but Saint Mary's second-half surge secured the win for the visitors.
First Half: Davis Gives Bethel the Lead
Bethel started strong, finding the net in the 16th minute when Madison Davis capitalized on a well-timed play to put the Threshers up 1-0. Bethel's defense, anchored by goalkeeper Victoria Esquivel, kept Saint Mary at bay for the remainder of the half. Esquivel made several key saves to preserve the lead.. The Threshers entered halftime with a narrow 1-0 advantage.
Second Half: Saint Mary Rallies
Saint Mary came out of the break and leveled the score in the 60th minute. Just over a minute later, Saint Mary struck again, turning the game around with a second goal that gave them a 2-1 lead. Despite Bethel's efforts to equalize—including multiple attempts from Malayasia Larque and a strong shot from Briseis Gomez—the Threshers were unable to break through Saint Mary's defense.
Esquivel finished the match with five saves, and Bethel outshot their opponents 11-7 on goal attempts. Bethel will look to bounce back in their next KCAC matchup as they continue their push in conference play?.
