Men's Basketball falls just short of No. 9 Moundbuilders

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College men's basketball team fell just short against Southwestern College despite their late efforts.
 
The Moundbuilders quickly built up a nine-point lead 17-8 before Bethel came storming right back to tie the contest at 17 capped off with a Miguel Vojtova steal and fastbreak and-one.
 
Bethel led Southwestern build their lead up to 12 points, but were able to close out the half on a 7-3 run to trail by just eight at the intermission, 42-34.
 
Coming out of the break Carmelo Yakubu and Harper Jonas knocked down back-to-back buckets cutting the Builder lead down to just two, forcing a SC timeout less than a minute into the half.
 
Southwestern responded to the timeout by quickly pushing their lead back up to eight points.
 
With BC trailing by 17, 79-62 and just under five minutes left on the clock, the Threshers started their climb back cutting the SC lead down to just eight points with a minute eighteen left to play.
 
During the run, Bethel shot 9 of 11 from the floor and 8 of 10 from downtown as they got as close as six points with 19 seconds left following Nick Bonner's third three during the stint.
 
Southwestern knocked down their free throws down the stretch as they took the eight point victory.

Southwestern attempted 41 free throws in the contest compared to Bethel's 16. The Builders knocked down 29 of their 41 while the Threshers made just 6.
