Men's Tennis defeats Ottawa Arizona and RV Midland

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College men's tennis team took on both Ottawa Arizona and RV Midland on Friday. The Threshers beat the Spirit 6-1 before beating the Warriors 5-2.

Milan Bucek and Petr Kollar played together agianst Midland at #1 doubles where they won 6-1. Tomas Quercia and James Menard played in the #2 position together where they won 7-5. Jonah Bergeron and Rodrigo Sanchez played #3 doubles together where they won 6-1.

Bucek, in #1 singles, won the first set in tiebreaker 7-6(7-2) before taking set two 6-2. Quercia played at #2 where he fell 6-4, 7-6(9-7). Kollar won at #3 6-1, 6-3. Sanchez won at #4 singles 6-1, 6-3. Moses Sawatzky won in the #5 position 6-2, 6-3. Bergeron won at #6 6-0, 6-1.

Playing against Midland, the Threshers used the same doubles pairings as they won their second doubles point of the day. After being down 4-1 in both of the top two doubles positions, the Threshers rallied back to trail 4-5 in both matches. Bucek and Kollar pulled it out winning the tiebreaker 7-3. Bethel earned the doubles point with a 6-4 victory at #3.

Bucek won at #1 singles 6-4, 6-1. Quercia fell 7-5, 6-2 at #2. In the third position, Kollar won his match 6-4, 7-5. Sanchez won his match at #5 handily with a pair of 6-1 victories. Sawatzky fell in three sets 6-0, 2-6, 10-7. Bergeron rounded out the lineup at #6 as he won 6-2, 6-4. This was the Threshers first win over an opponent that was receiving votes in a national poll under Head Coach Gabe Johnson.

Bethel will be back in action on Friday, March 8th as they host Texas A&M Texarkana at 4:00 PM at Ward Tennis Center.
