North Newton, Kan., August 28, 2024 – The Bethel College men's soccer team kicked off their season with a hard-fought battle against Hastings College on Wednesday evening, ultimately falling 6-3 in a match filled with many goals.
The Threshers came out strong in the first half, striking first with a goal from Panagiotis Charalambous at the 17:50 mark, assisted by Calvin Bell. Bethel extended their lead just before halftime with an unassisted goal by Adalsteinn Kristinsson in the 41st minute, giving them a 2-0 advantage.
However, Hastings responded quickly with a goal by Juan Arteaga-Lopez in the 44th minute, narrowing the score to 2-1 as the teams headed into halftime
The second half saw a flurry of goals from both sides. Bethel's Aden Braggs made it 3-1 in the 55th minute, but Hastings countered with five consecutive goals. Despite several key saves by Bethel's goalkeeper Kazimir Kromwijk, the Threshers were unable to regain the lead.
The loss puts Bethel at 0-1-0 to start the season. The Threshers will look to bounce back in their next match this Saturday on the road at Central Christian.
