North Newton, Kan. - The Bethel Threshers claimed their first victory of the season in a 3-1 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State, with Filip Maksimovic finding the back of the net twice, including his first goal of the season.
The Threshers struck first in the 38th minute when Juan Volker opened the scoring, assisted by Maksimovic. The opening goal gave Bethel the momentum going into the half with a 1-0 lead.
In the 81st minute, Maksimovic finally broke through with his first goal of the season, calmly converting a penalty kick to double the Threshers' advantage. Though Oklahoma Panhandle State responded with a goal from Nils Kienass just three minutes later, Maksimovic sealed the victory for Bethel in the 88th minute with a goal, assisted by Lucas Pardo.
Goalkeeper Kazimir Kromwijk played an important role in keeping Bethel in front, recording four saves throughout the match.
With the win, Bethel moves to 1-3-0 on the season and will look to build on this performance as they continue their campaign Wednesday, September 11th at Thresher Stadium against OPSU.
