In a hard-fought defensive battle at JRI Stadium, Bethel College suffered a 21-6 loss to Kansas Wesleyan, bringing their season record to 4-1.
Kansas Wesleyan struck first in the opening quarter when KWU scored on a 46-yard touchdown pass, giving the Coyotes a 7-0 lead. Bethel responded early in the second quarter with a 37-yard field goal from Matteo De Hoyos, narrowing the deficit to 7-3. Kansas Wesleyan extended their lead just before halftime. Running back Alexander Elam punched in an 11-yard touchdown run with under a minute remaining in the second quarter, sending Bethel into the locker room down 14-3. Bethel had opportunities to close the gap in the second half. De Hoyos connected again on a 37-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter, making it a one-score game at 14-6. However, a 43-yard breakaway touchdown by Kansas Wesleyan's Daeden Taylor with just over four minutes left sealed the victory for the Coyotes.
Offensively, Bethel's quarterback DJ Ciers threw for 167 yards on 18-of-28 passing but was unable to find the end zone. Wide receiver Corey Catron had 9 receptions for 65 yards. Running back Torriano Richardson led Bethel's ground attack with 56 yards on 20 carries. Defensively, Tate Seabolt anchored the Threshers with 8 total tackles and 2 tackles for loss. Rodrick Edwards added an interception, but Bethel couldn't convert the turnover into points.
The Threshers will return home next Saturday, to play Tabor for Fall Fest.
