Thresher Indoor Track & Field Opens Strong at Friends First Chance Qualifier, Mia Roman Breaks School Record

Wichita, Kan. - The Bethel College indoor track and field team kicked off their season with an impressive showing at the Friends First Chance Qualifier on January 11th. Competing against tough competition, the Threshers delivered personal bests, school records, and great performances across multiple events.

Field Events

  • Women's High Jump: Cleo Naranjo soared to a personal best of 4'11", finishing 7th in the high jump.
  • Women's Long & Triple Jump: Myiah Logue started her season with top-5 finishes in both the long jump (17' 5") and triple jump (34' 5").
  • Men's Long Jump: Fabian Talavera debuted with an impressive 19' 11.5", narrowly missing the finals, while Caeleb Roper advanced to the finals with a lifetime best of 21' 4.75".
  • Men's Throws: Hayden Wallace excelled with personal bests in the weight throw (12.77m) and shot put (12.54m), securing 5th and 6th place finishes, respectively.

Track Events

Men's Events

  • 60m Dash: Corbin Unruh led the team with a personal best of 7.25 seconds, followed by strong runs from Caelen Roper (7.31), Josiah Buller (7.33), and Fabian Talavera (7.36).
  • 600m Run: Seth Balzer posted a lifetime best of 1:31.06, finishing 7th.
  • 800m Run: Braden Esau claimed 2nd place with a solid season-opening time of 2:04.31.
  • Mile Run: Tobin Wise finished 4th with a time of 4:41.59 and continued his strong day with a 5th-place finish in the 3000m (9:39.30).

Women's Events

  • 400m Dash: Cleo Naranjo debuted in the 400m with a strong showing, finishing in 1:04.02.
  • 1000m Run: Mia Roman broke her own school record, clocking in at 3:11.51 to finish 2nd.
  • Mile & 3000m Runs: Bethany Schrag delivered a pair of stellar performances, finishing 3rd in the mile (5:53.56) and 2nd in the 3000m (11:41.60).

The Track team will travel to Fayette, MO next Saturday to compete at Northwest Missouri State
