North Newton, Kan. – History was made Wednesday night as Bethel Women's Soccer earned its first conference win of the season and gave head coach James Lipocky his first career victory at Bethel, defeating Sterling 2–1 at Thresher Stadium.
The Threshers struck early in the 9th minute when Malayasia Larque buried her third goal of the year, assisted by Taylor Andrew. Sterling answered back in the 33rd minute to tie the match at 1–1.
Just after halftime, Bethel regained control. In the 46th minute, Aniaya Lugo found the back of the net off a setup from Lilli Reisser, giving the Threshers the lead that would be held throughout the rest of the match.
Defensively, goalkeeper Cadence McMenamy earned her first career win, stopping one shot while the Bethel defense limited Sterling to only five attempts. The Threshers outshot the Warriors 27–5.
