Winfield, Kan. – Bethel men's basketball continued its winning ways on Wednesday night, traveling to Stewart Field House and outlasting Southwestern in overtime, 93–85.
In an insanely physical matchup, Bethel managed to pull through behind clutch performances from Trenton Patterson and Carmelo Yakubu. Dominick Harris led the Threshers with 21 points, knocking down 5-of-10 from beyond the arc.
Southwestern opened the second half on a run, jumping ahead 56–43. But Harris sparked the comeback with a deep three, followed by a steal and a layup to energize Bethel. Patterson added 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting.
Southwestern eventually pushed its lead back to 12 with 13 minutes left and appeared to be in complete control. Nearly everything was going wrong for Bethel—missed opportunities, tough shots, and timely buckets from Southwestern kept the deficit large.
With 8:51 remaining, Southwestern's Nigel John scored to make it 64–53. Bethel responded with a 9–2 run fueled by three straight triples from Harris, Yakubu, and Harris again. Southwestern then extended the lead back to nine with 4:42 left, and the game felt nearly out of reach.
But the Threshers refused to go away, rattling off a 13–4 run over the final 4:43 to force overtime, highlighted by a monumental four-point play from Patterson. Bethel carried the momentum into the extra period, scoring 16 points in overtime to secure the 93–85 victory.
Carmelo Yakubu was dominant once again finishing with 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists.
