Springfield, Mo — Bethel went on the road Wednesday night and pushed Evangel for a full 40 minutes, but the Threshers couldn't overcome early turnovers and a heavy free-throw disparity in a 74–69 loss.
The opening half was defined by missed opportunities. Bethel matched Evangel shot-for-shot from the field, but 13 first-half turnovers repeatedly stalled momentum and turned potential scoring runs into empty possessions. Even with the miscues, the Threshers trailed only 33–31 at the break thanks to strong interior play and a steady defensive effort.
Bethel made a real push in the second half, tightening ball security and finding rhythm offensively. The Threshers attacked the paint, got downhill, and repeatedly answered Evangel's scoring bursts. However, the Valor's ability to live at the line became the difference. Evangel piled up free-throw attempts throughout the night, creating separation in a game where field-goal shooting was nearly even.
Still, Bethel had bright spots across the lineup. Carmelo Yakubu poured in 21 points, leading the offense and flying around defensively. Albert Diarra added 15, finishing efficiently at the rim. Trenton Patterson gave the Threshers a spark with 10 points off the bench, while Rustan Griffen, Cade Kittrell, and Dominick Harris all contributed key moments to keep Bethel in striking distance.
The Threshers made multiple late pushes, but the combination of early turnovers and Evangel's advantage at the stripe ultimately proved too much to overcome.
Bethel will head home to take on Sterling on Wednesday at 8:00 PM.
