Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball wins at Home on Senior Night

NORTH NEWTON, Kan.—The Bethel College men's basketball team put on a show for Senior Night, securing a commanding 91-81 win over Tabor College on Wednesday night at Thresher Gym. With the victory, the Threshers (19-8, 15-6 KCAC) momentarily move into sole possession of third place in the conference standings, with Saint Mary set to play Ottawa tomorrow night in a crucial seeding matchup.

Before the game, Bethel honored its eight seniors—Eli Wiseman, Harper Jonas, Nick Bonner, Carter Reid, Ekene Duru, Joshua Hoar, Lorenzo Monopoli, and Lucas Stewart—who played a key role in the Threshers' strong season.

How It Happened

Bethel wasted no time setting the tone, jumping out to a 38-24 halftime lead behind a flurry of three-pointers from Harper Jonas, who finished with 20 points on 5-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc.

The Threshers continued their dominance in the second half, with Nick Bonner pouring in a game-high 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting. Carmelo Yakubu controlled the paint, finishing with eight points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.

Despite a late push from Tabor, Bethel's depth and ball movement proved too much to handle, as they finished with 23 assists on 32 made field goals.

Inside the Numbers

  • Bethel shot 44.4% from the field and 38.9% from three-point range.
  • The Threshers outrebounded Tabor 40-37.
  • Bethel recorded 23 assists on 32 field goals.
  • The Threshers outscored Tabor 31-22 in fast-break points.

Playoff Picture

With the win, Bethel holds the third-place spot in the KCAC standings for now, but Saint Mary still has a game against Ottawa tomorrow night. A Saint Mary loss, combined with a Bethel win on Saturday at York, would solidify the Threshers in third place heading into the KCAC Tournament. However, if Saint Mary wins their final two games of the season, they will reclaim third due to the tiebreaker over Bethel.

Up Next

Bethel will close out the regular season on the road at York University on Saturday, February 22nd, at 5:00 PM.
