Flag Football Drops Season Opener

NORTH NEWTON, Kan.—The Bethel College flag football team struggled to find its rhythm on Wednesday night, falling 47-7 to Kansas Wesleyan JV at Thresher Stadium. Despite a late touchdown to break the shutout, the Threshers were unable to slow down the Coyotes' high-powered offense.

How It Happened

Kansas Wesleyan JV wasted no time getting on the board, scoring on their first possession to take a 6-0 lead. The Coyotes extended their advantage in the second quarter, adding two more touchdowns and conversions to make it 20-0 at halftime.

Quarterback Kyndall Longman faced pressure throughout the night, completing 9-of-25 passes for 119 yards and one touchdown, while also leading the team in rushing with 37 yards on eight carries.

The second half saw much of the same, with Kansas Wesleyan JV continuing to move the ball efficiently through the air. By the fourth quarter, the Coyotes had built a 47-0 lead.

Bethel finally broke through late in the game, as Longman connected with Tatiana McCollum for a five-yard touchdown with just 38 seconds remaining. Kathryn Schmidt ran in the extra point, putting the Threshers on the board before time expired.

Defensive Standouts

Despite the lopsided score, Bethel's defense made key plays throughout the game. Amber Clawson led the unit with four solo tackles, while Xavia Mann and India Lindsey each recorded pass breakups. Lindsey also made a key interception late in the game, halting a Kansas Wesleyan drive.
