Softball Splits Doubleheader Against Friends

North Newton, Kan. — Bethel College (7-6, 3-1 KCAC) split its home doubleheader against Friends University (12-8, 2-2 KCAC) on Saturday at Wedel Field. The Falcons took game one with a dominant 10-0 victory, but the Threshers bounced back in game two with a 5-3 win.

Friends dominated the opener behind a stellar pitching performance from R. Wertz, who threw a complete-game shutout, allowing just one hit while striking out 13.

The Falcons jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run homer by B. Dunn. A four-run second inning, highlighted by a three-run double from C. Magana, extended the lead to 7-0.

Bethel struggled to generate offense, managing just one hit from Kailey Sandoval. Friends added three more runs in the sixth to put the game away.

Bethel capitalized on key hits to edge out Friends in game two. After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, the Threshers quickly responded as Ashleigh Bodine doubled home two runs to give Bethel a 2-1 lead.

Friends tied the game in the third, but Bethel answered with a three-run inning. Kaylee Linnebur's RBI single, followed by Claire Broxterman's run-scoring hit, helped the Threshers regain control.

Richardson pitched 4.1 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits before Emma Demartino entered in relief. Demartino shut the door with 2.2 scoreless innings to secure the victory.
