Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Swept in Offensive Battle at Avila

Kansas City, Mo. — Bethel College (10-25, 6-18 KCAC) couldn't keep pace with Avila University (26-16, 16-6 KCAC) on Friday morning, falling 7-0 in game one and 18-10 in a wild game two in KC. Despite a 10-run outburst in the second contest, the Threshers were unable to slow Avila's hot bats in the six-inning loss.

Game 1: Avila 7, Bethel 0

Pitchers of Record

Win: M. Cotton
Loss: Kayla Richardson (3-10)
Save: None

Avila scored in five of six offensive innings and held Bethel to just four hits in a shutout win. The Threshers couldn't capitalize on their few opportunities, stranding three baserunners.

Ella Caudill, Ashleigh Bodine, Claire Broxterman, and Kenzi Young accounted for Bethel's four hits. Richardson allowed six earned runs over 3.2 innings before turning it over to senior Emily Demartino, who closed the game with two runs allowed—just one earned.

Game 2: Avila 18, Bethel 10 (6 Inn.)

Pitchers of Record

Win: M. Daniels
Loss: Emma Killingsworth (5-9)
Save: None

What started as another offensive barrage from Avila turned into a slugfest, with Bethel rallying multiple times before the Eagles pulled away with a six-run sixth.

The Threshers trailed 11-3 but clawed back behind Claire Broxterman's two-run homer, a two-RBI double by Madison Gonzales, and a massive three-run homer from Sadie Jensen in the sixth inning to make it 12-10.

Unfortunately for Bethel, Avila responded with five hits and six runs in the bottom of the frame to invoke the run-rule. Despite the loss, it was a strong showing at the plate: Sadie Jensen went 2-for-4 with 4 RBIs, Broxterman had 2 RBIs, and Cassie Albin and Reese McCord each added key hits.
