Softball Drops Two on the Road at Saint Mary

Leavenworth, Kan. — Bethel College (8-19, 4-12 KCAC) was swept by the University of Saint Mary (17-17, 5-11 KCAC) on Saturday afternoon. The Threshers fell 9-1 in game one before dropping a 7-4 decision in game two at the Saint Mary Softball Field.

Saint Mary opened the game with a five-run first inning and never looked back. The Spires tacked on additional runs in the second and sixth while holding Bethel to a single run in the second.

Sadie Jensen doubled to lead off the second inning and scored on an RBI single from Haylee Welsh. Reese McCord collected two of Bethel's seven hits, while Claire Broxterman and Ashleigh Bodine each added a hit in the loss.

Killingsworth started but was chased in the first inning. Emily Demartino pitched 4.1 innings in relief.

Bethel took a 3-2 lead in the third inning, thanks to a two-RBI double from Kaylee Linnebur and an RBI single by Sadie Jensen. Saint Mary responded with three unearned runs in the fifth and added two more in the sixth to pull away.

Kenzi Young delivered an RBI single in the seventh, but the Threshers stranded the tying run on base. Young finished 2-for-3, and Linnebur walked twice and scored two runs.

Richardson pitched 4.2 innings, allowing five runs (three earned), while Gracie Higgins gave up two unearned runs in relief.
