Bethel Battles Ranked and Receiving-Votes Opponents in McPherson

The Threshers picked up a pair of strong results against Columbia and William Penn and pushed Central Methodist to five sets.

Sept 5 • vs Columbia (RV)

Result: Win 3–1 (25–17, 17–25, 25–22, 25–17)

Bethel opened the tournament with a four-set victory over Columbia, a program receiving votes in the NAIA poll. After trading the first two frames, the Threshers steadied behind a balanced attack and closed the final two sets with composure. Cameron Offerle delivered 17 kills, while Landree Merriman added 11 on a .320 hitting clip. Darla Crow chipped in seven kills and four blocks, and libero Abby Koontz anchored the back row with 17 digs.

Sept 5 • vs William Penn

Result: Win 3–1 (25–15, 25–22, 18–25, 25–21)

In their second match of the day, the Threshers claimed another 3–1 decision, this time against William Penn. Bethel stormed ahead with a dominant first set and showed resilience by finishing strong in the fourth after dropping the third. Offerle once again led the way with 17 kills, while Crow hammered 12 kills on .333 hitting and added three solo blocks. Setter Dalaina Schutte ran the offense with 23 assists, and Koontz provided 12 digs as Bethel improved to 2–0 on the weekend.

Sept 6 • vs Central Methodist (RV)

Result: Loss 2–3 (28–26, 25–23, 14–25, 23–25, 7–15)

Bethel closed its stay in McPherson with a five-set battle against Central Methodist, another team receiving votes nationally. The Threshers built a 2–0 lead behind Offerle's 20 kills and Kamryn Hill's 13, but the Eagles rallied back to even the match and carried momentum into the fifth. Merriman added eight kills and Schutte handed out 24 assists as Bethel nearly secured its third win of the tournament. Koontz was once again busy in the backcourt, collecting 18 digs in the hard-fought defeat.

Bethel turns its focus to the Fort Hays Invitational. The Threshers open play against NCAA Division II Northwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 2:00 PM.
