OTTAWA, Kan. — The Bethel College men's basketball team continued its strong conference run Saturday afternoon, earning a 76–66 road win over Ottawa at Wilson Fieldhouse. The victory improves Bethel to 15–3 overall and 10–2 in KCAC play, giving the Threshers sole possession of second place in the conference standings.
Bethel controlled the game from the opening tip, building a 30–19 halftime lead behind balanced scoring. The Threshers extended the margin in the second half, scoring 46 points after the break to keep Ottawa at arm's length despite a late push by the Braves.
Carmelo Yakubu and Trenton Patterson led the way with 18 points apiece. Yakubu added nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals, impacting the game on both ends of the floor, while Patterson knocked down four three-pointers and provided a steady offensive presence throughout.
Rustan Griffen added 14 points on efficient shooting, and Cade Kittrell chipped in 11 points and five rebounds, helping Bethel control the paint and the glass.
Defensively, Bethel limited Ottawa to 35.8 percent shooting and forced 17 turnovers, turning stops into timely scoring opportunities. The Threshers also won the rebounding battle 36–45, holding their composure on the road to secure another important conference win.
With the victory, Bethel now turns its attention to one of the biggest matchups of the season.
