NORTH NEWTON, Kan. — The Bethel College women's basketball team delivered a statement win Wednesday night, defeating No. 23-ranked Friends University, 72–59, inside Thresher Gym. The victory improves Bethel to 12–7 overall and 9–4 in KCAC play, stays in a tie for 5th with Bethany.
Bethel controlled the game from start to finish, never trailing and setting the tone early with defensive pressure and physical play in the paint. After taking a 31–26 lead into halftime, the Threshers broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring Friends 23–13 to seize full control.
Caryn Yoder led Bethel with 17 points, while Emersyn Eischen added 14 points and seven rebounds. Madyson McKinzie chipped in 13 points, and Kendall Locke filled the stat sheet with 12 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Bethel finished with a 40–30 rebounding advantage and scored 44 points in the paint, consistently winning the interior battle against the Falcons.
The win came against a Friends team that entered the night ranked 23rd nationally and sitting second in the KCAC standings, making it one of Bethel's most complete performances of the season.
Bethel now turns its attention to a road matchup this weekend. The Threshers are scheduled to travel to McPherson on Saturday for a 5:00 PM tipoff. Due to the potential for winter weather, there is a chance the game could be postponed.
