SALINA, Kan. — Bethel men's and women's tennis delivered a strong performance Sunday in Salina, earning a pair of team victories over Doane.
The women secured a 5-2 win, powered by a dominant showing in doubles. Bethel swept all three doubles matches to claim the early point. Daniela Casique and Sara Ladino won 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, while Ximena Raya and Patty Huerta followed with a 6-1 victory at No. 2. Grace Dawes and Kate Rowland completed the sweep with a 6-2 win at No. 3.
In singles play, Bethel picked up four victories. Ladino earned a straight-sets win at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-3. Raya added a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3. Dawes controlled her match at No. 4 singles, winning 6-1, 6-2. Jireh Gonzalez sealed the team result with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 6.
On the men's side, Bethel posted a 7-0 sweep. The Threshers took all three doubles matches, starting with Zaidh Zihar and Petr Kollar winning 6-2 at No. 1. Jorge Batista and Billy Haoda claimed a 6-1 win at No. 2, and Adam Tomka with Rodrigo Sanchez closed doubles with a 6-2 victory at No. 3.
In singles, Bethel won every court. Batista rolled to a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 1. Kollar battled to a three-set victory at No. 2, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6. Haoda added a 6-3, 6-1 result at No. 3. Sanchez, Zihar, and Tomka each earned straight-set wins at Nos. 4, 5, and 6 to complete the sweep.
Next up, both teams travel to Arizona for matches Thursday and Friday. The Threshers will compete Thursday at Arizona Christian and Mesa Community College before facing Ottawa in Surprise, Arizona on Friday.
