HILLSBORO, Kan. — The Bethel College women's basketball team dropped a 48-41 decision to Tabor on Wednesday night but remains firmly in the race for a top-two seed in the KCAC Tournament.
Bethel now stands at 19-8 overall and 16-5 in conference play. The Threshers are currently tied for second place with Friends, while Saint Mary sits one game back in fourth.
Bethel shot 30.4 percent from the field and 25 percent from three in the contest. The Threshers finished with 25 rebounds and forced 20 Tabor turnovers, converting those into 14 points. Tabor held a 33-25 rebounding edge and shot 85.7 percent from the free throw line.
Kendall Locke led Bethel with 14 points, five rebounds, and four assists while playing all 40 minutes. Karlee Locke added seven points and three steals. Madyson McKinzie contributed six points and seven rebounds, while Caryn Yoder finished with six points.
Bethel trailed 26-16 at halftime but cut the deficit to two in the fourth quarter before Tabor sealed the game at the free throw line down the stretch.
Conference Tournament Outlook
Saturday's regular season finale will determine final seeding.
If Bethel wins, the Threshers will secure the No. 2 seed in the KCAC Tournament regardless of other results. Even if Friends wins and finishes tied, Bethel would win the tiebreaker based on its victory over Evangel, the conference's top team.
If Bethel loses and Friends wins, Bethel will finish as the No. 3 seed. Even if Saint Mary wins and ties Bethel in the standings, Bethel would hold the tiebreaker and remain ahead of the Spires.
In short, a Bethel win guarantees the No. 2 seed. A Bethel loss combined with a Friends win results in the No. 3 seed. If Friends loses, Bethel earns the No. 2 seed regardless of its own result.
Possible First Round Matchups
The race for the No. 7 and No. 8 seeds remains unsettled. Tabor currently sits seventh at 11-10, with Avila, Ottawa, and Kansas Wesleyan tied just behind at 10-11.
If Bethel secures the No. 2 seed and Tabor wins Saturday, the Threshers would host Tabor in the first round of the KCAC Tournament.
If Bethel finishes as the No. 3 seed, the Threshers will host Sterling in the opening round regardless of other outcomes.
