Women’s Tennis Earns Ranked Win Over No. 19 William Woods

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. — Bethel College women's tennis delivered a monumental victory Sunday afternoon, defeating No. 19 NAIA / No. 20 ITA-ranked William Woods by a 5–2 score at the Ward Tennis Center. The win marks the highest-ranked victory of head coach Gabe Johnson's tenure at Bethel.

The Threshers started the afternoon strong by securing the doubles point. The duo of Daniela Casique and Sara Ladino dominated at No. 1 doubles with a 6–1 win, while Ximena Raya and Patty Huerta followed with a 6–3 victory at No. 2 doubles to clinch the early advantage. William Woods managed the lone doubles win at the No. 3 spot, but Bethel carried the 1–0 lead into singles play.

Bethel quickly built momentum in singles, picking up key straight-set victories across the lineup.

At the top of the lineup, Daniela Casique battled through a tight opening set before taking control to earn a 7–6, 6–2 win at No. 1 singles. Sara Ladino followed with a 7–6, 6–4 victory at No. 2 singles, giving the Threshers a strong presence at the top courts.

The depth of Bethel's lineup proved decisive as well. Ximena Raya delivered a commanding 6–0, 6–4 win at No. 3 singles, and Jireh Gonzalez secured the clinching point for the Threshers with a hard-fought three-set victory 6–0, 3–6, won the super tiebreak 10-0 at No. 6 singles.

William Woods claimed wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, but Bethel's early doubles point and four singles victories sealed the 5–2 win over the nationally ranked Owls.

Bethel returns to action Thursday at 1:00 PM when the Threshers travel to take on Kansas Wesleyan
