SALINA, Kan. — The Bethel College softball team battled throughout a road doubleheader against Kansas Wesleyan on Saturday but ultimately fell in both contests. Bethel dropped game one 5–2 before falling 5–3 in game two. With the results, Bethel moves to 5-9 overall on the season.
Game 1: Bethel 2, Kansas Wesleyan 5
Bethel stayed within striking distance most of the afternoon but a four-run fifth inning by Kansas Wesleyan proved to be the difference in the opener.
After three scoreless innings, Kansas Wesleyan broke through in the fourth when a wild pitch allowed the Coyotes to take a 1-0 lead. The Coyotes then capitalized on multiple hits in the fifth inning to extend the advantage to 5-0.
The Threshers responded late. In the sixth inning, Sadie Jensen singled and later scored on an RBI double from Alohilani Mundon to put Bethel on the board. Bethel added another run in the seventh when Jensen reached on an error that allowed Hailey Bethel to score, cutting the deficit to 5-2, but the rally ended there.
Mundon led the Threshers at the plate with two hits including a double and an RBI, while Jensen also recorded two hits and scored a run. Bethel finished the game with six hits.
In the circle, Emma Killingsworth started and took the loss after throwing 4.1 innings before Katelynn Quidato finished the game in relief.
Game 2: Bethel 3, Kansas Wesleyan 5
The Threshers again fought back in the second game but were unable to overcome an early deficit.
Kansas Wesleyan jumped ahead quickly with two runs in the first inning and added two more in the second to build a 4-1 lead. Bethel answered in the second when Kailey Sandoval doubled home Katelynn Quidato to get the Threshers on the board.
Bethel made its biggest push in the fifth inning. After putting runners on base, Kiyana Cash delivered an RBI single, followed by Sadie Jensen adding another RBI single, pulling the Threshers within 4-3.
However, Kansas Wesleyan added an insurance run on a solo home run in the sixth inning to push the lead to 5-3. Bethel was retired in order in the seventh to end the game.
Sandoval led the offense with two hits and an RBI, while Cash and Jensen each added an RBI hit. Bethel again recorded six hits in the contest.
Emma Figueroa started in the circle and took the loss, with Emma Killingsworth pitching three innings in relief.

The Threshers will return home on Wednesday for a doubleheader against Southwestern College at Wedel Field, with first pitch scheduled for 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
