NORTH NEWTON, Kan. — Bethel College softball put together a dominant day at Wedel Field, sweeping Southwestern College in a doubleheader with 9-1 and 11-1 victories. The sweep also marked a major milestone, as head coach Dave Middleton earned his 100th career win.
Game 1: Bethel 9, Southwestern 1
Bethel wasted no time setting the tone in game one, jumping out to an early lead and never looking back in a 9-1 win.
Bethel plated two runs in the opening inning and steadily added on, including a three-run fourth and a three-run fifth to break the game open. Bethel finished with 13 hits, with production coming from throughout the lineup.
Kenzi Young and Kiyana Cash led the offense at the top, combining for five runs scored, while Katelynn Quitado drove in three runs. Alohi Mundon added a pair of hits and RBIs, and Ashley Poe chipped in with two hits and an RBI.
In the circle, Emma Killingsworth delivered a strong performance, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out nine over five innings to secure the win.
Game 2: Bethel 11, Southwestern 1
Bethel carried that momentum straight into game two, erupting offensively in an 11-1 run-rule victory.
After trading runs in the first inning, Bethel broke the game open with a six-run third inning, highlighted by timely hitting and aggressive baserunning. Bethel added two more runs in the fourth to seal the win.
Bethel tallied 14 hits in the game, with Kenzi Young (3 hits, 2 RBIs), Alohi Mundon (2 hits, 2 RBIs, triple), and Kaylee Linnebur (2 hits, 4 RBIs) leading the charge. Kailey Sandoval added three runs scored and two hits, continuing her strong day at the plate.
Emma Figueroa picked up the win in the circle, allowing just one run across four innings of work, while Katelynn Quitado closed out the final inning.
