NORTH NEWTON, Kan. — Bethel College men's and women's tennis continued their dominant run through conference play on Monday, sweeping Bethany 7-0 in both matches at the Ward Tennis Center. With the wins, the Bethel moves to 8-3 overall (4-0 KCAC) on the men's side and 9-1 overall (4-0 KCAC) for the women.
Men's Tennis
Bethel set the tone early by sweeping doubles to claim the first point.
At No. 1 doubles, Zaidh Zihar and Petr Kollar earned a 6-2 win, while Billy Haoda and Jorge Batista followed with a 6-1 victory at No. 2. Adam Tomka and Jonah Bergeron completed the doubles sweep with a 6-2 win at No. 3.
Singles play was just as one-sided.
Jorge Batista picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1, and Petr Kollar added a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2. At No. 3, Billy Haoda handled a tight second set before finishing 6-2, 7-6. Rodrigo Sanchez cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4, while Zaidh Zihar (6-2, 6-2) and Jonah Bergeron (6-1, 6-1) closed out the sweep at No. 5 and No. 6.
Bethel did not drop a single court in the match, controlling play from start to finish.
Women's Tennis
The women matched that performance with a 7-0 sweep of their own.
Daniela Casique and Sara Ladino opened doubles with a 6-1 win at No. 1, followed by Ximena Raya and Patty Huerta taking No. 2 doubles 6-2. Kate Rowland and Grace Dawes secured the point with a 6-4 win at No. 3.
In singles, Bethel continued to roll.
Casique earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1, and Ladino followed with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 2. Raya dominated at No. 3 with a 6-0, 6-2 win, while Grace Dawes added a 6-1, 6-4 result at No. 4. Patty Huerta battled to a 6-1, 5-7, 6-0 win at No. 5, and Jireh Gonzalez secured the final point with a 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 supertiebreak win.
