North Newton, Kan. - The Bethel College men's tennis team delivered a dominant performance Saturday sweeping Avila University 7-0 in their conference opener.
The Threshers controlled the match from the start, securing the doubles point with strong play from their top pairs. At No. 1 doubles, Zaidh Zihar and Petr Kollar earned a 6-4 victory, while Jonah Bergeron and Adam Tomka followed with a convincing 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles to give Bethel early momentum.
Bethel carried that energy into singles play, winning every completed match in straight sets.
At the top of the lineup, Jorge Batista battled through a competitive match at No. 1 singles, defeating Avila's Axel Scott 6-3, 7-6(2). Petr Kollar added another point at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 7-6 (3) victory.
The middle of the lineup continued the Threshers' dominance. Billy Haoda cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles, while Rodrigo Sanchez controlled his match at No. 4 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 result. Zihar completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles.
With the victory, Bethel continues to build momentum as the team prepares for a major test.
The Threshers return to action today at 1:00 PM at the Ward Tennis Center, where they will host No. 20 ranked William Woods.
