Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men's Tennis Dominates, Defeats McPherson 6-1 to Near KCAC Title

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. — In a highly anticipated Monday afternoon matchup between the top two teams in the conference standings, the Bethel College men's tennis team made a resounding statement with a dominant 6-1 victory over McPherson College.

With the victory, the Threshers improve to 14-3 overall and a perfect 10-0 in conference play, taking sole possession of first place in the standings. McPherson, who entered the match with one conference loss, now falls further back in the race for the top spot.

Match Recap

Bethel set the tone early by capturing the crucial doubles point. The top pairing of Zaidh Zihar and Petr Kollar cruised to a 6-2 victory at #1 doubles over McPherson's Hamish Wyatt and Arthur Nardy. The duo of Jorge Batista and Billy Haoda then clinched the doubles point for the Threshers, securing a clutch 6-4 win at the #2 spot against Bruno Barrientos Molina and Jayson Wasserfuhr. McPherson managed to salvage the #3 doubles match, as Texas Ranger Schmidt and Balazs Temesvari defeated Adam Tomka and Jonah Bergeron, 6-3.

Carrying the momentum into singles action, the Threshers dominated across the lineup to put the match out of reach. At the bottom of the rotation, Adam Tomka secured a swift 6-2, 6-0 straight-sets victory over Davian Spies at #6 singles. Zaidh Zihar followed suit at the #5 flight, dispatching Balazs Temesvari 6-2, 6-4. Rodrigo Sanchez also earned a strong win at #4 singles, taking down Hamish Wyatt 6-3, 6-4.

In the upper flights, Petr Kollar engaged in a hard-fought battle at #2 singles but ultimately triumphed over Jayson Wasserfuhr. Billy Haoda also ground out a competitive victory at #3 singles against Bruno Barrientos Molina to add to Bethel's commanding point total. McPherson's lone point of the day came at the top flight, where Arthur Nardy managed to defeat Jorge Batista in #1 singles action.

Looking Ahead to the KCAC Title

Now sitting alone at the top of the conference, Bethel controls its own destiny with just two matches remaining in the regular season.

Thursday: The Threshers will host the Friends University Falcons—currently sitting seventh in the conference—at home.

Saturday: The team will then travel to take on sixth-place Ottawa University for their regular-season finale.

If Bethel can secure victories in both of these final two matchups, they will be crowned the outright KCAC regular-season champions. One win would guarantee at least a share of the conference title.
