Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer earns first draw of 2022 in 1-1 tie with Southwestern

WINFIELD, Kan. – The Bethel College Men's Soccer team continued KCAC play on Wednesday night as they took on Southwestern College. The Threshers struck early in the contest, but were unable to keep the Moundbuilders off the board in the second half as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Jaime Guardado got Bethel on the board in the 21st minute when the SWC keeper came out to catch a Thresher cross and fumbled the ball. The keeper then made an attempt to coral the loose ball, but Guardado was able to control the ball, get away from the keeper and blow a shot by three Moundbuilders into the net.

Southwestern was able to even the match at 1-1 due to miscues defensively for the Threshers. Bethel turned the ball over in their defensive third giving an advantage right away to the Moundbuilders. The SWC attack executed a through ball to gain a 3-2 advantage against a BC defender and the keeper. The attacker on ball drew both the defender and the keeper to the near post before passing the ball between to the two to a teammate who was faced with an open goal.

Neither team was able to break 1-1 tie during the final 21 plus minutes giving Southwestern their third draw of the season and Bethel their first.

The Threshers out-shot the Moundbuilders 18-15 with 4 coming on goal for BC and 5 for SWC. Southwestern earned five yellow cards to Bethel's two.

Bethel will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 7th at 5:00 PM as they take on Oklahoma Wesleyan in Head Coach Luka Milicevic's first return to his alma mater.
