NORTH NEWTON, Kan. — The Bethel College Athletic Department announced the resignation of
Alex Hagan, head women's soccer coach, to pursue a new career opportunity.
"I'm incredibly thankful for the passionate work Alex put into our women's soccer program and Bethel College Athletics,'' said Director of Athletics
Tony Hoops.
"He was the ultimate servant leader within our department, always helping however he could."
Coach Hagan completed his fifth season at the helm for the Threshers in 2021 working alongside his wife, Bethel All-American
Madison Hagan, as assistant coach. During his tenure, Bethel turned in a record of 28-46-9. He coached 11 All-KCAC selections during his five-year stint at Bethel.
"I'd like to thank
Tony Hoops for believing in me and giving such a young coach at the time the opportunity to lead the Bethel Women's Soccer Program over the past five years," stated Coach Hagan.
"Bethel has provided my family and me a place we will always call home."
Hagan took over the Threshers in 2017 and was able to turn a struggling program into a competitive one as they made the KCAC Conference Tournament in each of his last two seasons, finishing as high as 5th in the conference.
Hagan's teams were also deeply involved in the community performing many acts of community service. The KCAC women's soccer coaches recognized these acts by naming Bethel Women's Soccer their selected Team of Character two times during Hagan's tenure while earning the KCAC All-Sport Team of Character in 2018.
"Thank you to the players I've coached over the past five years, the coaches I've been surrounded by, and the entire Bethel College family for everything," Hagan said. "I'm lucky to have worked at a place that makes saying goodbye so hard."
The Threshers' best year under Hagan's guidance came during the 2020 season in which they went 7-5-1 with a .557 win percentage, the first winning season in over 20 years for the program.
Hagan's highest single-season win total came during the 2021 campaign in which they won eight games finishing 8-8-3, the first eight-win season since 1998 when they won 12 games.
"Alex was one of my first hires 5 years ago. It's been a joy to watch him grow as a leader during this time," stated Hoops.
"He leaves the women's soccer program in a much better place and our department is better because of his growth as well."
A search for the next head women's soccer coach will begin immediately.
