HILLSBORO, Kan. - For the first time in four seasons, the Bethel College football team fell in the Menno Bowl to Tabor.
The first quarter was all Bluejays as they jumped out to a 10-0 lead after the first 15 minutes.Â
In the second quarter, Bethel scored all 13 points as
Tucker Smith ran one in from 18 yards out and
Carson Sauseda knocked home two field goals.Â
Sauseda's second field came from 53 yards out, a Bethel Football program record. The record was previously set by Braden Dragomir in 2008.
After taking a 13-10 lead into the break, Bethel gave up the first points of the second half as Tabor took a 17-13 lead into the final 15 minutes of play.
Tabor scored two touchdowns to start the fourth quarter pushing their lead to 31-13.Â
The Threshers scored with just under two minutes left to play when
DJ Ciers found
Trevon Madison for a 6 yard touchdown pass. Ciers punched in the two point conversion to cut the lead down to 31-21.
Bethel was unable to recover the onside kick as the Bluejays ran the clock out to end the contest.
Ciers completed 16 of his 23 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown. He also added in 20 rushing attempts for 118 yards.
Jacob Reyes pulled in 5 reception for 48 yards to lead the Threshers' receiving core.Â
Tate Seabolt led Bethel in tackles recording 8 tackles, all solo.
The Threshers will be back in action on Saturday, October 14th as they host McPherson College for their Fall Fest contest at 6:00 PM.
