Football Earns Back-To-Back KCAC Championships as Historic Season Ends

NORTH NEWTON, Kan. - The Bethel College Football team earned a share of the KCAC Conference Championship for the second year in a row after Southwestern spoiled Kansas Wesleyan's undefeated season. The Threshers found themselves in a three-way tie for the KCAC Conference Championship with Southwestern and Kansas Wesleyan after all three teams beat each other.

The 2021 campaign was one to remember for the Threshers as they had the program's first ever back-to-back 9 win seasons. Bethel was able to set 7 offensive records during their run. They etched their name in the rushing yards in a game record book multiple times this season including taking over the top spot with a 619 yard rushing performance against Bethany College. In that same contest, the Threshers broke the yards of total offense by more than 70 yards as they put up 692 yards of total offense. They broke the single season rushing yards record running for 4,504 yards, the total yards in a season record with 5,390, points scored in a season with 461, and had the third highest points in a game in program history when they scored 69 against the Swedes. 

During their historic season, the Threshers were able to reach national rankings as high as no. 10, tying the programs highest ranking ever, never dropping out of the top 16. They finished the season leading the country in rushing yards by more than 1,400 with 4,504, rushing attempts with 622, rushing yards per game averaging 409.5, average rushing yards per attempt averaging 7.2 and rushing touchdowns with 45.

Chantz Scurry moved his way into the third spot in rushing yards for a career with 2,855 after running for over 1,200 yards this season, the sixth best single season mark. Scurry also moved into second all-time in rushing touchdowns just behind former teammate Zach Esau with 33 to Esau's 34. 

Bethel also finished with one of the best defensive units in the country. They allowed just 92.7 rushing yards per contest on the ground this season, the eleventh best mark in the country. The defense also recorded 34 sacks over the course of their 11 games, the ninth most in the NAIA. 

Josh Seabolt was able to add to his career tackles record moving his total from 301 to 400 with 99 tackles this season. Seabolt moved into the second spot in career sacks as well with 24 total career sacks, 10 of which coming this season. Josh moved into first in sack yardage with 71 yards this season bumps his career total to 167 which is also a school record.

Trey Palmer's 7 interceptions is the second highest total in a season in school history, he ranks second in career receptions in his three seasons at Bethel with 15. His 147 interception yards moves him into second in career interception yards with 209. Palmer had six straight games this season with an interception, including two games with a pick six. He ranks first all time with 3 career interceptions returned for touchdowns.
